City of Sacramento | Being Flood Ready
Being flood ready is important for any city located near a river, and Sacramento, California definitely fits that category.
The City of Sacramento Department of Utilities (Dept. of Utilities) is responsible for informing residents about flood preparedness and mitigation. For this assignment, our goal was to develop and design materials for residents and business owners regarding local flood risks and preparedness tools.
The Dept. of Utilities wanted to reach residents across multiple platforms including:
• Printed tri-fold brochure
• Digital brochure
• Static billboards
• Digital billboards
• Bus graphics
• Bus stop graphics
• Web banners
When it comes to readability and message retention, each platform has its own challenges. As a marketing agency, it’s important to know best practices for each and then design accordingly. How long do people have to read a billboard versus a bus graphic? What verbiage and imagery will catch the most attention? We also need to be aware of new media as it emerges, and be ready to implement messages across those platforms as well.
Thomas|Ferrous has worked with the Dept. of Utilities for more than 17 years. During this time we have been part of many projects, including:
The Consumer Confidence Report
A document that discusses the quality of the drinking water in Sacramento and is presented in print and digital formats.Utilities Water Day Event Posters
Informational posters for an event at the Dept. of Utilities facility. Each poster focuses on different aspects of the (?) facility, such as water treatment, flood abatement, etc.Dam Failure Preparedness Brochure

We look forward to working with the Dept. of Utilities for many years to come. If you have a similar project you’d like to discuss, give us a call.
